yes, if a particle of soil erodes, it eventually deposites somewhere downstream. This is a basic conservation of mass principle.

They do not have to work together per se, at least not in the same location. However, there is a nearly equal amount of deposition that occurs somewhere down stream from the erosion site. A minimal amount of minerals may be permanently added to the water as it goes down stream. This process creates salt water in the ocean and also in terminal lakes which have no path to the sea. Two examples are the Dead Sea and Salt Lake in Utah.
