It may be the air switch which controls the water into the machine. The pump may be OK.Of the side of the drum look for a clear plastic pipe the size of a pencil,it might be blocked and the machine may well think its empty it will run to a unit at the top of the machine with lots of cables connected to it.Lay the waste pipe down into a bowl to empty machine, then clean that pipe and the chamber it goes to on the side of the drum, try this first before spending money on a new pump, this realy is an easy fix and worth doing. If the machine wont empty when you lay the drain hose down, then check that 2inch rubber pipe at bottom of drum.

Its unlikely to be pump failure.More likley valve blockage.
At the base of the machine at the rear. There will be a 2in black rubber hose held on with a steel clip.
Remove the clip and inspect inside the valve.Remove debris and reconnect.
If the flexible waste pipe shares the sink waste trap then inspect the gauze at that point of connection too.
There will be audible evidence if the pump is working even if the water doesnt drain.
If the pump has failed, check price of replacement first.
Actual refitting takes minutes and is within the capability of the novice DIYer.Fitting is reversal of removal.

Take it you have a washer dryer? try cleaning the water trap next to the pump(filter) . I repair washers daily and have found on newer models that when the pump fails in some cases it can affect the module so dont rush to repair it or there could be two faults as a result. I have found hotpoint to be a good machine and parts easy to get, although a new hotpoint can have a creda badge as they merged. good look. oh ,second hand washer not good idea unless it has just been serviced.

Most Washing machines have a filter which collects all the things you leave in your pockets. If you don't empty this filter it can stop the pump working to empty it. If your machine is full of water. Their are usually methods of emptying it in your manual. If not take it outside and just take the cover off the filter. I will guarantee there will be stuff in there. Make sure there is nothing in the impeller which is what stops the motor going ( often coins)

look under your washing mac,or you might have a cover on the bottom front, you just undo a clip, then pull it out,it should look like a small tube with holes in it,put it back in the same way you tuck it out, about 10 Min's,to do it,
