Ethernet cable is like a phone like but tihicker. It it connected behind your computer unless you have a 2wire modem. If your ethernet cable is connected but you still can't get online, that means you internet has been disconnected, but if th einternet works on other computers, your modem has burned out.

a Ethernet cable is typically blue or gray and round while most phone cords are flat. the end of the Ethernet cable has a RJ45 connector on it with 8 pins, a phone cable is smaller (RJ11) and has 4 pins.

make sure the Ethernet cable is inserted securely into your network interface card. that is located on the rear of your computer. the Ethernet cable can not fit into the modem port.

an ethernet cable is the one that connects your computer to the router/hub/modem that you have. looks like a phone cord but with bigger ends. look at the back of your computer for this cable to see if it is plugged in. look at the back of your cable/dsl modem or router to see if any cables are unplugged
