Right now I would have to say it is Yadier Molina over Pudge Rodriguez.
Molina is extremely young and has a cannon for an arm. He is so good behind the plate that the Cardinals don't mind even if he hits below .230 like he did last year; his ability is second to none.
Pudge was once the greatest catcher in the game and is still one of the best in history; however, even though he has won 12 gold gloves, his best years are behind him now. He is still excellent nevertheless.
Simply put, Molina is amazing, the best young catcher I have seen thus far.

Ivan Rodriguez is the best, no questions asked. Look what he did last season with the Tigers, got them (with a very young staff) to the World Series. He also took a young staff with the Marlins to the World Series and beat the Yankees, what a wonderful year that was!

Ivan Pudge Rodriquez, no doubt about it
Molina is great too
Piazza is a good catcher but know more for his offensive, not that great at throwing out at second, compared to others

I think Yadier Molina had one of the highest percentages this past season on throwing runners out stealing. He also had quite a few pick offs after the pitch. He's definitely in the running for best current defensive catcher.

Ausmus was amazing. He's still a good catcher but I think the only reason we still have him is because of his value as a player that doubles as an on field coach. I think Moina is pretty good.

I will have to say Mike Mahteny, even though he's not as good as he used to be he, was great at helping the young pitchers get into the habit of pitching in the MLB for the Giants, and also was great with the veterans too.
