Italian sausage is a style of pork sausage which is noted for its seasoning of fennel and/or anise, containing at least 85% meat. It is made in sweet and hot styles. It is generally not cured, and is normally grilled and eaten with giardeniera or other vegetables.

More generally, Italian cuisine has produced a variety of styles of sausage, many of which are quite distinct from the product generally known as Italian sausage.

In popular culture

* On the HBO series Sopranos Italian sausage is a quite common entrée.
* Sweet Italian sausage is the most typical topping for pizza in Chicago, Illinois.
* An italian sausage can be seen racing around the field in the Sausage Race following the sixth inning of all Milwaukee Brewers home games. It competes against the other Klement's Racing Sausages, which also include a hot dog, bratwurst, polish sausage, and the recently added chorizo.

Italian Sausage is italian based on the seasonings that are a part of the sausage. Beef topping is just that - beef. The difference between sausage and beef is sausage generally comes from pork (or pigs), and beef comes from cattle.

I would imagine that Pizza Hut only uses one type of sausage, I believe the beef topping is kind of like broken up meatballs. As far as the "Italian Sausage" different regions of Italy make different types of sausage with different Ingredients and in different sizes.

It is a seasoned sausage, using italian seasonings. And now they have a beef topping at a lot of Pizzaria's that is actually roast beef. You can get a BBQ beef pizza as well that is roast beef on your pizza's, they are quite good. You can also get hamburger topping, sauage, beef, BBQ beef, and steak topping pizza's. At least you can here in Iowa where I live.
