I lived with my Mama, and I wore mostly hand-me-downs. My stepmother never let me pick out my own clothes when we went shopping because she wanted me to be 'trendy'- she wouldn't let me get what I wanted since she was paying for it, even after I turned 15!

But around 13 my mom started letting me pick out what I liked whenever we went shopping. Truthfully, I've never been really into fashion... I like what's comfy =)

When I started buying my own clothes in the eight grade! Before then I had ugly clothes because I was really active so my mom would buy me clothes I couldn't destroy the first time I wore them...

pick out to buy or to wear? I believe you should be able to wear what you want with the exception of clothes that are vulgar or look so bad together that it is embarrasing to the people around you. If they buy you clothes you don't like then just tell them you are not going to wear them and they will not feel inclined to buying them for you. Show them the clothes you like and persuade them why they are the clothes for you. good luck. stay sharp. and don't try to look gay lol.

My mom bought my clothes when I was little but she never told me I couldn't wear something. If I wanted it she usually let me get it and wear it. And my parents still don't care what I wear.

When I was old enough to buy my them myself, I always got them from garage sells. Nothing beats name brand clothes for $.50.
