My personal top 5 would have to be
1. Tupac Shakur- lyrically, he wasnt that great, but his message & flow overcame his lack of bein a lyricist
2. Big L- The greatest freestlyer in the world, of tha map with lyricism, made great songs...too bad his life was cut short
3. Eminem- Showed that bein you dont have to act like a "G" to make great music & be recognized; 1 of the best freestylers in the world, has a very open mind & dips into different styles of rap/ hip-hop, & despite his recent releases (Encore, Curtain Call) possesses the greatest lyrical abilities alive. Only questionable rapper that is lyrically better than him is Nas
4. Nas- The best rapper alive, no doubt. Made the best hip-hop album ever (Illmatic), has a vivid mind & his creativity & cleverness on a track is unmatched. Besides maybe Eminem, possesses the greatest lyrical ablilities alive.
5. Tech N9ne- Great flow & lyrics, dips into a different darker side of music, but its still great.
Also, by region it would be
East Coast:
1. Big L
2. Nas
3. Big Pun(isher)
4. Fabolous
5. Papoose
Dirty South:
1. Chamillionaire
2. Ludacris

4. SPM (South Park Mexican)
5. Lil Yola

3. Khadafi (from The Outlawz)
4. Ras Kass
5. Xzibit
