In the second half of the XIXth century and the first half of the XXth Brazil received waves of Italian immigration, as well as other American countries. But the immigration has stopped and now most Italians in Brazil are old people. Obviously when I'm talking about Italians I'm talking about people born in Italy. Descedants of italians that were born in Brazil are not considered Italians here.

Some famous Brazilian players from now and the past descendants of Italians:
Rogério Ceni
Belletti
Ânderson Polga
Taffarel
Dunga

In the World Cup of 1938 Italy used three players born in Brazil with Italian ascents. In 1962 they used one.

In the last futsal World Cup, where Italy was the runner-up, 11 of the 12 Italian players were Brazilians of Italian ascents.

Yes there are many Italians in Brazil and those Italians maintained their Italian identity and culture with pride. My father was there five years ago and he was amazed at the the 4th and 5th generation Italians who have maintained not only the culture but the language as well.
