I think that because Canada has smaller population that amateurs have a better chance at getting exposure, and that ultimately produces more than its share of good comedians, actors, and musicians.

For example, you can't even play in a Los Angeles club unless you've already "made it", but anyone can get on a stage in Winnipeg!

Well, America has its share of great comedians...but since the greatest comedian on the planet, Jim Carrey is technically Canadian, I would find it hard to disagree...
