too bad his warranty doesn't cover spills. do you think i should pay for the repairs or get him a new macbook. What would be fair? His laptop turns on but the screen doesn't light up. And sometimes it won't turn on at all.

If you want to maintain the friendship, you should do what you would want him to do for you. If he spilt tea on your laptop, do you think he should buy you a new one? What would be the friendly thing to do?

Its really an easy decision, buy the guy a new laptop, better than the one he had. If he's a good friend, he'll say..."oh don't bother." But because he's a good friend say, "I really wanted to do that for you."

You should first pay for the repairs. If you are lucky enough, it will be repairable. If not, you I will suggest you to buy your friend a new one. If so, try to negotiate with the old laptop, try to sell it, the hard drive and memory might still work and be of some value for someone.....

I think you should first check it's broke, and try propping it over a radiator (upside-down) for a few days. Just to make sure it's definitely broke. If it is, take it to an electrical specialist and get it repaired. Will be cheaper than buying a new one.

To be honest, a new one will probably cost more than the used one was worth too.

I would offer to pay for any repairs, then if that didn't still didn't work I'd buy them a new one. The hard drive and RAM is probably still salvageable. So you might be able to get away with a new laptop that would be cheaper if you purchase it without those items.

Turn it over on a towel and try to dry it out. Then take a Q-tip with alcohol on it and swab between the keys (wet). Then turn it over again and see if that will dry it out. And, yes. If it doesn't work then buy him a new one and you can probably take his in and have it fixed for yourself.

Good luck

first see if it can be repaired.... if it can, then pay for the repairs. If it cant be repaired you might have to get your friend a new laptop.

Think about, if this happen to you? how will you fill, would like for that person to tell you or will you just not worried about it (from my opinion if someone did that and they didn't tell me i'll get really mad,but if they had tell me and they wanet to replace it i woul tell her/m not to worrie about it but if her/m is a nice friend her/m will buy you a new one) I think you should tell your friend about it and buy hem anew one p.s. say sorry too.

Maybe, BUT ONLY IF ITS COMPLETELY HOPELESS. THERE IS/WAS A CHANCE TO SAVE THE LAPTOP. IF ONLY YOU HAD-
a) REMOVED THE BATTERIES
b) REMOVED ALL WIRES AND EXTERNAL HARDWARE.
c) OPENED IT UP AND KEPT ALL PARTS SEPERATELY TO DRY.
THEN BOUGHT NEW STUFF IF SOME WAS DAMAGED.
PS- If you're descent enough, you'll buy a new one now.

Honesty is the best Policy, so you have to tell him what happened then repair it (if broken replace it).
