You can truly only become more with the accumulation of knowledge. Without it, how are you going to accumulate anything else?

Accumulation is the western mantra.
Yet for some people, accumulation is unnecessary and coarse and is to be avoided. I live in Thailand, and each day, I observe monks who give up everything to help others. Accumulation is the last thing on their mind. In fact, they actively shun it.
Accumulation is a capitalist philosophy, something that the west is trying to foster on other parts of the world, and is one of the reasons why America and its corporate greed is so disliked.
So to answer your question: yes, you can live a happy life without a garage full of crap.

Accumulation is important because having things creates a feeling of security for most people. It starts at the most basic level of comfort...food & shelter. Then, once you have those things, you think, "Hey! This is nice! This makes me happy. I should get more. Then I'll be even more happy. Yay!" Unfortunately, we, as humans, suffer from "the grass is greener" phenomenon. We're curious individuals by nature.

The truth is "things" are here for us, to have and to desire. We were meant to live in abundance. I'm not religious, but even the bible, which warns against gluttony and greed, says that.

accumulation is the modern and failing understanding of becoming more, it is infact a hindrance to becoming more.
