I have 2 SATAII hard drives, but until now have had a motherboard only capable of SATA speeds (150mb). Having just got a new motherboard with SATAII capabilities I've connected the SATAII hard drives using the original SATA cables that came with the old motherboard.

I know there's a difference between the cables - the SATAII cables have clips on them, making them more secure, but is there actually a difference in speed? Or will I be getting full SATAII speeds from regular SATA cables?

Having both SATA and SATAII capabilities on my computers, you don't need new cables. the SATA cables work fine for SATAII applications. it's nice to have the little clips on them, but if you're not adjusting your setup frequently, there's shouldn't be any concern about not having clips on your cables.

You don't need a different cable. Thing is, the clips deal with a earlier complaint about SATA cables being loose, but you don't need them.
