Yes, well they rest at least... i have 2 goldfish and at night they stop swimming and my fantail (the others a comet) actually rests on the bottom of the tank. At first I thought something was wrong with him but he's just resting... hehe

Yes! they don't close thier eyes due to their lack of eyelids, but they do sleep. if your fish just sort of stops swimming around and stays and one general location (that is NOT on the surface of the water!) then it is sleeping.

the reason you may be confused is because fish actually don't close their eyes when they sleep: they don't have eyelids!
but trust me, they sleep.
