Why do "punk" people realize they're just conforming? is the bigger question. People who are into the fashion and trends are aware of the fact that they are conforming; "punk" kids think they are unique, but are in fact are as conforming or even more so than people who admit they conform.

Hear me out on this, because I know what your saying, but there is more to it...(and I say it in a friendly way).
To a certain degree resisting conformity is a egotistical and selfish thing to do. If you can conform to the people your with, to some degree, you will be able to know them better (anybody, anywhere). Although its their hang up, you are required to break you own conformity with yourself in order to appreciate them, and then, they will automatically drop their own fashions. In this way, we lessen the hold that conformity has on ourselves and the people we meet. An obvious example is when your with your Grandma, you don't curse. When your with your buddies, maybe you do. That's conforming, it's necessary, and good.
I do agree that fashions are a farce if taken too seriously. So what are you going to do?
Are you going to complain about the way it is,
or,
are you going to accept it, and get underneath it so that it looses it's importance?

people are insecure, some more than others. most people just want to be like everyone else, they're afraid to be different or do their own thing because they fear rejection or ridicule from others. we live in a society where conforming is considered to be socially acceptable. but this goes way farther back than just fashion.
the biggest problem, i think, is that most people who are into fashion KNOW they're conforming. most people can't think for themselves and just don't want to, they'd rather be ignorant and just do what everyone else does because they figure that's the best way to get by. no wonder our species is so messed up, huh?
but hey, let 'em do their thing, ya know? most people are complete idiots, so whatever. the fact that those people are so busy trying to be "cool" is what separates the different, unique people from them. just do yo thang, bud. the most important thing is that you learn from what you see, and allow it to make you a better person. xD

yes, people like to be part of something and have approval of others. for much of human history, surviving alone was not possible (or very hard), so conformity is kinda in out genes.

Dude, I love high end designer clothes, not cuz I'm trying to fit in. I just think they're extremely cute. And I feel better about myself when I'm well dressed. Don't we all?
