they pollinate them, spread their seeds, eat the competing plants.

Photosynthesis is the means by which plants create energy from sunlight so I do not see the relevance to animals. Animals however are vital in different ways for some species of plant. To spread seed through ingestion of berries, pollination by bees, the Venus flytrap absorbs protein by catching flies and some rely on the 'pruning' given by herbivores eating and stripping back excess leaves etc. Not all plants require animals to survive though.

Some plants need animals. Plants that evolved before insects do not need insects to pollinate. These are wind pollinators, but they may need bacteria to fix nitrogen. Some plants can fix nitrogen themselves, like legumes, but these are later developments and they use insects to pollinate.
Generally, plants and animals do not overlap or compete as much. Essential plant chemicals like vitamin A are not made by mammals so a dependence has developed. Plants use vitamin A for different purpose.

Photosynthesis happens because of the chlorophyll in the leaves (+ energy of the sun, CO2, H20)... certain plants for example need animals to destribute their seeds. The fruit with the seed is being digested, but the seeds are being dropped with his bowelmovement somewhere, where they have a chance to grow and thrive, because of its beautiful luscious leaves.

BEES. have you ever never seen the bee action picture? Thats stunning. in certainty, all of the flora die, simply by fact the bees are not pollinating. So, its to do with them spreading seeds and helping flora reproduce. And flora choose co2 to stay to tell the tale, yeah? Animals breathe out co2. neat eh?
