Go to Target or K-mart and buy air filters for your home that specifically catch smoke. 3M has a filter with a red bag wrapper that works well, but there's one with a higher rating than that (I think the wrapper is purple) and works even better.

Yearly they'll add up around the same price as an air purifier, but it might be easier on you (or her) financially.

Febreeze will help, but so will baking soda. Just stick a box in the top of the closet. For your dresser, put a couple table spoons in a small cloth bag and pop one into each drawer. make sure you can refill the little bags. Change them once a month. The baking soda will absorb odors, just like in the fridge. You can leave one out in the open so your room doesn't smell as bad. Also, when you hang your good clothes, if you put a garbage bag over them and tie it at the bottom, it will keep odors out. Be sure to put a few cedar chips into the bag to absorb any dampness, or you might have another problem, if you are storing them for any length of time.

Fabreeze tends to leave clothes and fabrics with a "stickiness", so you should not Fabreeze your clothes (the tar, nicotine, etc. from the smoke will cling to the stickiness from the Fabreeze, causing your clothes to get a yellowish tint to them).

One thing I could suggest though, is that you ask your mother if she could invest in an air purifier, or start smoking outside, because yoiu are concerned about how you appear/smell when around others.

There is no easy solution, however, you could start putting garbage bags over your clothes as they hang in the closet, keeping the "just washed" smell inside But your best solution would be to convince your mother of how it makes you feel, because until the air clears of smoke, you still have to walk through it, allowing clothes to catch the odors.

Understand that smoking is an addiction, so understand that your mother may not be able to quit smoking or anything drastic like that, but perhaps if you tell her how it makes you feel/smell, she can alter the behavior enough to allow the air to clear up a bit, leaving your clothes free from odors.

Good luck to you.
