I'm the same age as you, and am recently married. The most perspective-altering books I've read over the past couple of years are memoirs, as there is nothing like experiencing someone else's reality on the page. The ones I highly recommend are "Running in the Family" by Michael Ondaatje (the author of "The English Patient"), "My Invented Country" and "Paula" by Isabel Allende, and "I Could Tell You Stories" by Patricia Hampl. The Art of Happiness is the best book I have ever read and will change your life for the better in so many ways...It is based on conversations with the Dalai Lama ..Very very inspiring..

read OCEAN STAR by christina dimari--an excellent memoir about her abusive childhood and her journey to a spiritual awakening that saved and changed her life---a must read that will put ones life in perspective--good luck!
