Your happiness shouldn't depend on other people. I learned that the hard way, but you don't have to.
You shouldn't "keep yourself happy;" that's just trying to ward off sadness. You should instead "be happy." With yourself, your wants, your life, and your beliefs.

Well try emailing or a phone call, maybe myspace if you have it. You don't need people to be happy though, sometimes it is hard I know not having anyone there. Maybe have once a week where you get together with a friend or friends, even if it is a different friend each week. You could watch a movie together or go out to a club or something, maybe even just have dinner and talk.

If you are really sociable and far away from family, the internet is always useful. Other than that, I would suggest getting a hobby or joining a club which interests you, can help you meet other people.

If you're really sociable, then there'll be many more friendships that you'll make, don't worry, just be patient. If you've always been popular, it never really changes.
I know cause I've always found friends myself.
And, of course, if all else fails, there'll always be people to talk to online I guess. There must be gazillions of people on Yahoo Answers lol.

Music, tv and keeping close knit with online friends and the few I still have in my real life. It's not easy but if you stay close to family and friends then you can still feel connected and not alone.

Music, video games, anything to get you away from the real world, along with its boredom.
