So many answers here are wrong- here are some things to know-

For starters- DNA is a factor in very few murder cases. In the United States over 120 people have been released from death row with evidence of their innocence. In about 15% of these cases, the evidence involved DNA evidence. DNA will not guarantee that an innocent person is not convicted of murder.

If the death penalty were reinstated in the UK, don’t count on the crime rate going down. The death penalty is not a deterrent. In the United States, states with the death penalty have higher murder rates than states that do not have it.

Many of the people on death row who were found to be innocent had already spent over a decade there. If the process were speeded up, they would have been killed, in our name.

More and more states have life without possibility of parole on the books. It means what it says.

The death penalty costs far more than life without parole.

Last of all, the death penalty can be very hard on families of murder victims’. The legal process is much more complicated, takes longer and forces the families to relive their ordeal in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

This subject is much too important to be settled without knowing the facts. Common sense, not revenge is the right way to go. And opposing the death penalty does not mean you excuse brutal acts or the people who commit them.

I do...no-one ever gets a life sentence even for the most heinous crimes, life means maybe 5 years or less in some cases, no wonder more crimes are being committed, whats so bad about being in jail nowadays anyway, they have all the comforts of home except total freedom and sex, but even that's available if you want it in whatever way, I have NO sympathy for people in jail, now you just have to shout...human rights.....and you get what you want with a wad of cash ...so, yes, I do think some other form of punishment should be introduced, people that say ' no ' would maybe change their minds if their family member was raped, murdered, or your children were involved with paedophiles or severely assaulted, none of us want to be faced with that BUT we would expect the culprit to be sent to jail for more than a few months...wouldn't we ????

I think the death penalty should be implicated world wide and effective 30 days after a sentence has been given.

The bible states an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth an arm for an arm and a life for a life. DNA can now prove beyond any reasonable doubt the guilt of a murderer Let them face the gallows and God will deal with them

In this age of DNA, I think we could now prove without any shadow of a doubt that someone is innocent or guilty, so I believe that the Death Penalty should be reinstated, but it will never happen due to the PC brigade.

Only if it can be proved beyond doubt that the person they are going to put to death actually did commit the crime.

NO!

If you are wrongly convicted now and found inocent later on then your relised, how do you explain to the family that you made a mistake if the inocent person is dead.

I do.
If DNA can absolutely prove guilt for murder, serial rape or child sex offences then bring it on,but don't do what they do in the States and leave them on death row for thirty years,If your condemned to die then do it.

Why not, they've got it in the US. There is just no deterrent these days of committing violent crimes.
