My wife has just bought a Mac and is having a great time using it. However, downloading seems to work differently to PCs e.g. she downloaded RealPlayer, used it to listen to BBC radio shows and the next day it stopped working.

We solved that problem, but for future reference what do you do to ensure a problem free download?

She has a MacBook Pro running OS X

Just remember to select the correct option ie Mac, OSX when you download stuff, and I really don't think there should be a problem.

For safety, download files to the desktop then either install the application or use the disk image. Repairing "permissions" with disk utility before and after installation of an application will help speed "things" up when launching the application.
