or the coastal side of the storm with heavy downpours of rain and
30-50 mph winds and high surf and rip currents.

In case you're wondering which choice i would make.I would rather have the snow because rain is boring.

Here's the catch:
Rainy Side:
There could be locally strong thunderstorms,so a tornado watch is issued.
Snowy Side:
On the appalachian mountains,there
could be small 2-3 feet deep avalanches.

Inland. I've seen the effects of high surf and currents and it is 10 times worse than the snow.

I would rather be in the rain. It's near impossible to drive a front wheel drive, low to the ground car in a foot of snow. Actually, I live just north of Denver and got stuck in my house for a couple of days after getting 24" of snow. Rain doesn't stop the world. Snow might. And by the way, the city didn't plow anything where I live either. Talk about a huge pain. I had to wait until people with monster trucks and SUVs packed the snow down enough for me to be able to drive around. We also get 60+ mph winds sometimes anyway. I drove home from Denver about 2 weeks ago in conditions with black ice, blowing snow (hampering visibility), and 60+ mph winds. I also grew up in Dallas, TX where it rains all the time. Take my word for it. Getting around in heavy rains/tornado conditions is WAY easier than heavy snow.

Well as much as I hate the cold, i'm a snow plow driver and I know you can't plow rain out of the way, thunderstorms and tornadoes will destroy stuff.

Snow just needs to be plowed, then salt the roads.

Plus I make money :-)

Inland side with the snow. Either way it won't be pleasant, so I may as well take the side with the best chance of causing my office not to open.

I would prefer the snow. I can dig my way out after it is over. Insurance doesn't cover floods but it does cover damage if the snow breaks the roof.
