Which is the better service and why?

I have had both. I started out with Netflix, which was a good service, but decided to try Blockbuster since I had always been a Blockbuster customer. The Blockbuster service was slow and I was always waiting for a movie. I also did not enjoy the selection that Neflix has. I find the Netflix site to be easier to navigate as well. Netflix ships a movie, I get it the next day. I send it back and the same day they receive it, a new one ships. I addressed this with Blockbuster and was told I did not live close enough to a distribution center. I have since switched back to Netflix and have to say, I like their service much better. With Blockbuster I always received movies from the bottom of my list, while with Netflix I almost always have a new release. And they have New Releases listed every Sunday. If you are unsure, try both for a month each, they usually offer a month free and then make a decision. I personally prefer Netflix.

The better service: Netflix

Selection: Netflix - Netflix by far has a better selection in regards to non-mainstream; although, if you want very obscure foreign, you might need a more selective service like Greencine.

Flexibility: Blockbuster... for now. Sure you can return a DvD to the store and pick up one today, but what about a few months from now. Did you read the fine print? Total Access is "For a Limited Time Only" AND not all stores participate. That's right. They just want to get you back on their service and then return to their old ways of sticking you with some fee that you didn't realize was there. "Restocking Fee?!" BS - that's a Late Fee and you know it!

Mail Times: I don't know. But I'm guessing Netflix. Even though you might return a film to the store, it is still going to be shipped from a Distribution Center just like Netflix, and I'm guessing Netflix has more. I rarely have delays in my shipping, but the mail isn't perfect, so I'm good with that.

Program Consitency: Netflix. I signed up. Rented movies. No Fees. No alternate programs. No hassle. I held a movie for 4 months... no problem. Maybe BB has finally gotten on board with this, but with their poor ethics, I can only imagine they will be right back at it soon. Remember, Limited Time Only.

So yeah, I'll be sticking with Netflix for quite some time. Oh yeah, and if I need a movie day of... I go to Movie Gallery and get one for a less than $2.

I tried both and found that Netflix is better.

A large number of the movies on my Blockbuster queue said they had either short or long waits on them, and we're not talking new releases, we're talking movies that are 5 years old or more.

It just gave me the impression that Blockbuster does not have as good of a selection and they don't have the numbers available that Netflix does.

Also, the Blockbuster thing where you can return movies to the store is cool, but the catch is that the movies they give you then and there do have a due date. The thing I like about a service like Netflix is that I don't have to worry about when to get videos back, so for me personally that aspect of Blockbuster's service isn't worth it.

I gave Blockbuster a try a couple weeks ago and have been with Netflix for over a year but surprising stayed with Netflix and this is why.

1. I prefer to stay home
2. More availability
3. After testing I would return a movie to a Blockbuster store on Wednesday and returned one in the mail to Netflix the same day. I got my Netflix next movie on Friday and Blockbuster shipped my next movie on Friday. This to me seemed as though I was getting the same amount of dvds anyways and they were not shipping the same day, almost as if they waited to receive it back. Howeveer the first time I did return one it was shipped almost immediately.

4. Blockbuster takes 2 days after shipment, Netflix 1. I live in Oklahoma and they ship in my state, Blockbusters all come from Texas.

Other people may benefit more from it but the hassle of going to the store was not paying off for me. I only tried it 2 weeks and again only once did they ship my movie right after returning to a store.

I prefer Netflix because:
(1) I live 25 miles from a Blockbuster
(2) Netflix has never let me down
(3) Over the years (the pre late fee years), I've been pissed at Blockbusters erroneous late fees more times than I can count and
(4) I own Netflix stock (full disclosure policy), which brings me to other reasons such as
(A) Netflix is a much more profitable company

I had netflix, and i changed to block buster. Because after i had gotten more than their unstated quota, the service was so slow i was only getting a few movies, And they make me mad by blaming it on the Post office. I phonied the po and told them what NF had said, Skhe started laughing. . The story was that some post men take mail home over night if they are too busy. And they have places around town where they can lock extra mail up. Mine must have been stuck in one of those. I am not making this up. I went to Blockjbuster immed. Get lots of movies . they are great to deal with, in the mail and at the store.

Blockbuster you can return to your local store and get movies immediately. However they do tend to not send movies out immediately. I am a blockbuster member and not had a netflix membership.

Blockbuster is probably more convienent but Netflix has a larger selection of movies. I really enjoy indpendent, foreign and documentary so my vote is for Netflix. BTW , I have been a Netflix subscriber for over 3 years. I tried Blockbuster but their selection was limited.

I prefer Blockbuster because I can return the movies at the store.

The only advantage is Blockbuster lets you take the movie back to the store. So, if you're the type that watches lots and lots of movies all in the same weekend, you're in luck. Otherwise, it's no benefit.
