Well, it's almost impossible to tell aside from live-bearers, even experts have a difficult time sometimes. Very few will guarantee anything that they venture a guess at. Anyway, the "rules" are: the female has a vent (the poopy area) that sticks out and the male's sort of dents in. Also, a female is more round and bigger than a male.

This varies greatly depending on the type of fish. With many fish the males are more brightly colored than the female. In some the males have different shaped fins.
In others there simply is no way to know. Post the type of fish you have and we can answer.

Depends on the kind. Usually, males and females look slightly different within a species.
Like, male betta fish are big and showy and have long, flowing fins. The females are colorful, but dinky and small. I have a male white cloud and two females--the male has a fuller fin on the bottom and it's orange instead of white (oh, you'd have to see the two together.)
Sometimes, the differences are subtle--your best bet is probably to look at a male and female fish together (try a pet store or look it up) and see which one yours looks like.
Of course, if it starts laying eggs, it's probably a girl.

it depends on the species of fish, some are easy (ie live bearers have different fin shapes) some have differing colors and others you really can't tell until you see one lay eggs.

if it is a livebearer, guppies the most common, the males will have a pointed anal fin while the females will be rounded. most fish, however, like goldfish or egg breeders will show no different signs of gender.

haha funny question. my mom bought a couple of guppies for me when i was younger. we thought they were both girls. well, after a bit of time we had four.
i can never tell with fish
if you're trying to name it i would recomend...and this is what i do at least... i start playing some music and see which song makes it excited. then i name it after the artist. so far i've had a goldfish named freddy, and a bubble-eyed goldfish named moby.

Yep, depends on the type of fish.
Fin length and coloration can be good identifiers.
