"It is a show about nothing," and it really has no bearing on anything. It is meaningless to the end. Why was this show such an overwhelming success? Anyone want to say something about intellect in this day and age?

I have some strange views about Seinfeld so bear with me while I share them with you:

See, they SAID it was about nothing and YET the scenarios on Seinfeld (albeit overblown) were very similar to real-life scenarios! Also, the shows had a beginning, plot and outcome just like any other story.... it had extensive character development over the years and included many of the essential elements of a well-told story.

I think that the discussion of AND humour derived from the mundane (aka "nothing") was very refreshing at a time when TV was full of cheesy, one-season sit coms with lousy acting and writing!

Seinfeld paradoxically claimed to be the show about nothing but really was more the show about everything: Things that have happened to many of us, things that we have thought about but never talked about, things that we obsess over, things that drive us nuts... and THIS (among other reasons) is one of the reasons that Seinfeld enjoyed such success!

Just my two cents :)

The reason why Seinfeld was such a success is because it focused on comical day-to-day events that could conceivably happen to "the average Joe." I know I've had plenty of "Seinfeld moments" in my life!

Sometimes people just turn the TV on, for the laughs, I think the show was pretty lame. If you watch someone else doing dumb stuff, it seems funnier then if it happens to yourself. Sad but true, if you ever saw someone falling down it seems pretty funny when it happens.( like funniest home videos ).

The parallel to real life was uncanny... We go through life being cold, crass and sarcastic, but don't even notice it in our personality. So the show really is about something...It's about us!

I never understood why it was so popular either.....it seems, however, that mindless drivel is the programming of choice for many people.
