I'm having a career crisis. I have add - the kind that makes organizing and getting strarted extremely difficult and also involves careless/sloppy mistakes. I've been a project manager for 15 year, PMI certified - but I don't enjoy it much - esp the planning and detail tracking. I'm intelligent, I like technology - not exactly a nerd - but not far from it. I love helping people and working with children - I'm good at detecting patterns and solving problems. In addition to the ADD related issues I'm a conflict avoided. I did the 'discover your strengths' thing - but it doesn't offer much in the way of practical advice on how to leverage my talents.

Gosh, I can relate to you very much. I have not formally been diagnosed with ADD but I believe I either have it or something similar. I'm also middle aged, in a career crisis, in a job that I hate. I can be an excellent employee, but I can't figure out why I've totally lost interest lately.... could it have something to do with going to school for 4 hard years only to find that I'm having to compete with people in India and China in my profession.
Have you read the "What color is your Parachute? " book? I don't know how much help it is, but it is a very good book.
I hope you figure out what path to take and find something that you love doing, because it only gets worse if you wait longer.

As a school psychologist who has worked with adults and children, I suggest you speak with a medical professional you like. Over the last five years, there have been phenomenal advances in medications which make a big difference. In addition, check out programs for eye-tracking which train the brain to operate differently.

In response to a new career choice, I recently made a change and am now building a team of successful people who want to take advantage of the three fastest growing areas in the world; home based businesses, health and fitness, the desire to have more balance in life.

I have partnered with the top three leaders in the network marketing industry to build an international company. For more information on the company and my team, visit www.smartbusinessforyou.com or call 620-294-1909.

I think I have the perfect business for you. It's a home business in the health and wellness industry with a product that is both medically and scientifically proven. I would love for you to read up on what it does to help people with ADD.
I started this business because I too enjoy detecting patterns and solving problems. The product makes it so easy for me to help solve people's problems, and I do this every day.
All the tools are in place, including a free website that keeps track of everything for you, so you don't need to worry about that, and also comes with amazing training to help you succeed.
This is something you could build and start creating leverage as well as residual income. Incidently, this company donates a percentage of every item sold to kids foundations all over the world. I absolutely love this business and what it has done for me and my family.

Porn industry.

(what? try everything once, right?) :-p

[real answer: work as a project manager or market analyst for a company that develops robotic toys for children. If you play your cards right, you'll have lots of access to nerds and the cool technology they'll create, as well as access to children in pilot studies or focus groups.

... or be a teacher. God knows we need more qualified teachers everywhere.]
