I think his dream is still alive. Yes America has overcome. Nothing will ever be perfect. All in all race relations have vastly improved and Dr. King led the way to so much. But even he was a realist and new his dream would take some time. Prior to his death he began to see a lot of that happen. It has still taken a long time for attitudes to change. But of course now you have blacks who have the same prejudices and hates as whites. So times have changed everyone now openly feels the way the wish to feel. You will never have a perfect harmony where everyone gets along and has no feelings of hate towards another group. That fact doesn't matter where you are. But at least today it is very hard to discriminate against another without getting in trouble for it. I won't say it doesn't happen, but as a whole the majority in this country will not accept or tolerate this. That is a big change since Dr. Kings time. Now children and even adults work and play together as equals. That is a big change from Dr. Kings time.
I do feel that all people feel that they are entitled to more then they have gotten and that is just human nature more then anything else.

I think that if we keep remembering MLK, the dream will stay alive. However, the dream is more alive in the younger generations...I believe that we were all created equal, therefore I give anyone a chance when it comes to a friendship or relationship. My parents on the other hand, still believe that "whites should not mix with blacks" which is very sad seeing as how i myself have 2 biracial children. Sorry. Had to vent a little there. But, if we keep trying to spread the knowledge and love that we have, then the dream will continue to live on.

I know MLK's dream is alive...there still are many people who advocate peaceful resistance vs violence to make life better for others..

But America has a long, long way to go...the backlash against blacks has been going on for decades and won't end any time soon...

Why do I think we have such a long way to go?
1) In a nation full of immigrants, we are denigrating anyone who wants to become an American, particularly if they are Hispanic
2) Moslems and Arabs are the latest "boogie men" to be afraid of and/or hate;
3) Women still struggle to pay their bills
4) You can be fired for being perceived as being gay (or actually being gay) in 34 states
5) Conservative Christians have gained great power in our country and are pushing their agenda onto the rest of the country; even though over half of our citizens have given up on our country and refuse to vote;
6) Many Americans blame people who are unfortunate enough to be born into poverty, or lose their jobs, or lose their homes, become ill, become disabled, are mentally ill, or become poor and aged

I see the conservatism being proudly displayed. I wish I could hear and see compassion shown like I see the hate and fear being displayed. I gave up a well-paying job to do something I believed in, but I don't talk about it, since I am mocked for giving up money and status in this greedy and classist society.

Youve heard alot of persons say this on YA probable.. you are able to not use any communicate board like this as a device to predict any effect. optimal those that actual vote do not pay any pastime to YA. If any democrat votes McCain particularly of Obama that fairly dont care with reference to the conflict lasting yet another 8 years or not. WTH if Hilary wins the nomination it proves as immediately as again that usa care little for the Iraq conflict and doesnt care if it lasts longer.. Hilary received't pull out our troops. do not believe pollnumbers. they have a tendency to regulate particularly immediately.. evaluate that Obama 4 months interior the previous replaced proper into an prolonged lengthy shot to win the nomination. All pollnumbers proved that Hillary ought to win by technique of way of a staggering margin at that aspect. That replaced into not the actual reality

If u ever seen that episode of the boondocks where MLK came in our time and he was mad n sad on how we act. I agree with that. His dream is taken for granted n our generation doesn't truly respect what he and others had to go through n put there lives down for real peace n freedom.

His dream is alive. His dream was for people to have freedom, which they now do. He lived in a world of segregation and oppresion, which is a thing of the past in America.

I'm sure there are instances of racism, but considering the change from then to now, I'd say that we're doing fine.

dream is still there.... but we have a long way to go!! a lot of people say " slavery was over 200 years ago..... get over it"...but they are forgetting that in the 60s... not too long ago... african americans couldnt drink from the same water fountains... and so on... so once we as a people accept the fact that the past was shitty, we need to learn from it... and form a better future.

Put it this way:
55 percent of all the faces I see on TV are black, except in commercials, where it's 85 percent.. Go do the math.

as long as one child upholds what Dr King stood for, the dream will continue to live. sadly, i don't think our nation will ever fully weed out the ignorance that compells hatred and biggotry.
