I think it's life after death, hubby thinks it's afterglow, I've also heard being on drugs. What do you think?

It is a state of being where you are no longer in any emotional pain and do not care about any physical pain. This could come from drugs, and in the movie/album The Wall, it does. If you have only listened to the album...the movie is a MUST SEE.
One of the main character's Major struggles is to stop feeling emotions and to stop caring and escape his pain.

"Comfortably Numb" is the Pink Floyd song describing needing and getting a heroin fix. It refers to the overly relaxed, sedated, and detached sensation that comes from it.

Pink Floyd - "Comfortably Numb"

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok...
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There'll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe its working. good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on its time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I cant hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Tottaly stoned...

But I think it hold some truth in teh fact that it allows you to escape for a moment.
You're gone, but you're happy. You are esentaily, numb, but comfortable there.

I think it means being high. If you've ever been really high, comfortably numb is about the best explanation I've ever heard for it.

It's drugs.
Pink goes insane, wants a strange feeling he got when he was young and goes to a doctor. Corrupt doctor (or perhaps drug dealer) gives him pills.
