Unfortunately our world is polluted. Most fish have some level of contaminants in them. While we may be able to eat them without issue, the unborn baby can have severe lasting effects from them. Better to give it up and have a healthy baby. This goes for breastfeeding also. Take care!

From what I know it is okay to eat some . The reason why they reccomend you not to eat some type of fish is because the levels of mercury in there can be harmful to the developing fetus. The doctors will normally tell you which fish is okay. Usually tuna is okay in small amounts about 1 time a week or so but not a whole lot. Also stay away from caviar or any raw fish and swordfish etc.

You CAN eat fish when you are pregnant but some fish is really high in mercury. You should stay away from caviar and shark, and eat tuna at a minimum. You can do a search to find out all the fish to stay away from. Salmon is very good for you during pregnancy, it is loaded with good brain building nutrients that the baby needs. However, do not overdo it. You should not eat alot of any one particular kind of food but that does not mean that they are not good for you.

The only thing I've been told is not to eat shellfish/prawns etc because of the chance of food poisoning and to limit the amount of tuna I eat because of the mercury levels. As far as I know everything else is OK.

They are all right on the mercury fact, but that is only in some fish. Dr.'s recomend you to eat some fish during pregnancy. They don't recomend tile fish, shark, and some others I can't recall all of them. And they limit the qty. also per week. Check with parents.com they are very helpful.
