Find the slope of the graph of 3x - 4y = -12.

Determine the slope of a line that is perpendicular to the graph 4y = 3x - 8?

slope is coefficient of equation in form y = mx+b
4y = 3x+12
y = 3/4x+3
slope = 3/4

if 4y=3x-8
then y = 3/4x-2
again, slope is 3/4

slope perpendicular = -(1/first slope) = -1/(3/4) = -4/3

these are the right answers.

1. First: subtract 3x from both sides...

3x - 3x - 4y = -12 - 3x
- 4y = -12 - 3x

Sec: solve for "y" by isolating it on one side - divide everything by -4 ...

- 4y/-4 = -12/-4 - (3/-4)x
y = 3 + (3/4)x

*Make sure the equation is written in alpha descending order > the "x" variable comes first...

y = (3/4)x + 3

Third: the slope is a fraction/number in front of the x-variable...in this case the slope is 3/4

2. First: divide everything by 4 ...

4y/4 = 3x/4 - 8/4
y = (3/4)x - 2

*Slope = 3/4 and a line with a perpendicular slope is the opposite of 3/4 > flip the fraction and make it negative: - 4/3

Sec: the slope of a perpendicular line is - 4/3

To find the slope of the graph in standard form, the formula is
-A/B. For your first equation that would be : -3/-4 or 3/4.

For your second equation, it would be easier to set it equal to y which is : y = 3/4 x - 2. The slope of the perpendicular is the negative reciprocal of the slope of this line (3/4) which would be -4/3

Good luck

the slope is given in this ecuation y=mx+b by the variable m,
so in the first one you solve by y and then you have that the slope its 3/4

in the second one the perpendicular slope its the invers reciprocal of the normal slope, that would be -4/3

hope that helps you
