They are honest, loyal no matter what. They will never lie to you just to make you feel better. They know when you just need to get something off your chest and they just listen and let you talk. They do not judge you no matter what, but they will let you know when they think you are off track whether you want to hear it or not. Best of all they are always there for you.
I have been fortunate in my life to have three great friends like this... One male and two female.

A true friend doesn't judge or criticize, they will drop everything if you need them and they will be with you through thick and thin. They won't hurt your feelings or take you for granted, they won't talk about you behind your back, steal your boyfriend or date someone you like. They are loyal and kind, they take your feelings into consideration and if they have a problem with you they are honest enough to discuss with you. That is what a true friend is! How can you tell, well you have to trust, have faith and give them the benefit of the doubt. If they hurt you in any way without apoligizing and admitting they were wrong then they are not a true friend.

My key is that a true friend doesnt put u under a stereotype, they always support u no matter how bad u screw up. Also a true friend knows wats true about u and wont give in to rumors......you'll know when u have a true friend, because there is this underscibable relation that occurs. You understand each others inside jokes when everyone stares!

It depends on your personality everyone is different but I know my BFF has these traits that I love about her so much; support, trust, honest, don't matter what they will know how to make you smile.

values your time, she loves to spend time with you and plans one- on- one dates with you and keeps them!! She is dependable.. if your very upset and need to talk, she'll find time to listen.. like if she was invited to a party.. she'll cancel them just to be with you. you can tell when someone whos "fake" when they cancel plans with you just to do something better. or when you two are trying to talk she looks away/over you shoulder just to look for someone "cooler"

they keep their word, they are honest, if you ask small favors they do them...they back you up and dont talk behind your back...
