Hi All! Yesterday I adopted two new baby ( 6-7 Week) cavies. Here is my Question. How do I bond with them? Yesterday when I adopted them They seemed ok when I picked them up today about 24hrs later they are panicky. Is this normal? Thank you in advance and god bless!

Silly as it sounds it is actually good that they are panicky now, it means they are settling in. when they are quiet and still it actually means they are terrified, as they start to run around, even running away from you, it means that they are getting used to their surroundings.
the best way to bond with them is with food. sit by the cage with a treat in your hand (mine like broccoli) and gradually put your hand in their cage. they will eventually realise that it is food you are holding, and come and eat it. Do this for a few days without trying to hold them.
It is good that they are still young-they will learn faster to trust you.

They are prey animals so it make take some time to adjust to you and their new environment. They will be afraid of loud noises to try to have them in a quite place when you play with them or hold them.

The best thing you can do is handle them as much as possible, they will eventually calm down. Feeding them fresh veggies will help make friends too. After awhile they will recognize the noise the plastic vegatable bags make and whistle with delight.
