Not being a prison break fanatic, and having only seen a couple of episodes (which I enjoyed) could anyone tell me how they managed to keep the tattoo over the 2 series? Hours in make up? Or a temporary?

The tattoo design work is credited to tattooist Tom Berg, currently tattooing out of So Cal Tattoo in San Pedro, CA.
The tattoo is made from the state-of-the-art makeup technology that lets the design be applied in highly complex decals that piece together. The designs are touched up by hand, then the surface is sealed, and for all puroses, the images then act like tattoos, staying in place despite physical contact and water. The tattoo can stay on for a few weeks unless special makeup solvents are used to remove them.
Wentworth Miller, who plays Scofield, has described the process as taking between four and five hours if two makeup artists are working on him at the same time.

Fan sites and message boards are good places to find discussions of all the tattoo details and potential meanings.

The tattoo takes around four hours to apply. It is done using blueprint. It lasts for about a month.

Usually the outline is done first, then the shading and lastly the colour if you don't want just black and gray. The amount of sessions can depend on the speed of the artist, the length of time you can sit for, and if you've got really big arms it'll take longer again.

It takes 6 hours to apply it, and Wentworth Miller keeps it for up to 4 weeks.
Wish I had that job. He's gorgeous.

In the second series you don't see the full tatoo as much and the bits he needs seem to be on his forearms.

I'm thinking temporary because if it was makeup than it would probably smudge.
