I understand your delima. In some states the government will help you in others not. I stayed in a job I hated for too long just because of the good insurance plan. When I left there i could've gotton on Cobra but it would be over $300.00 A month. Couldn't do that. I have been able to find a clinic with a sliding scale and now I'm ok. If you need meds on a regular basis some pharmaceutical companies have programs for people who can not afford thier meds. Mine provides me with aniot-inflamitories for my arthritis at no cost. Ckeck into it.

If you are very poor...you can claim that you are and have the hospital use funds for such a purpose--emergencies only. I have children and really cannot do without health insurance, primarily do to the general cost of medical bills and prescriptions. An employer usually is able to obtain plans that go well below co-op non-employer insurance plans.

I do know that when I was in business for myself, one of the things that I did was to obtain health insurance...my husband complained that it was costly. Then, he became seriously ill with kidney stones. Its a good thing we had the insurance, otherwise we would have been up a creek, financially.

The other answers above me aren't practical and/or will only help to bankrupt the hospital health care system. You might be able to afford to be part of a group plan. Speak to a health insurance broker. There's Medicaid if you qualify. Sometimes a payment arrangement can be made with a doctor's office. Prescriptions are tougher. Stick to generics whenever possible. They can be considerably less expensive.

Public health care or the emergency room.Dodge bill collectors as much as you can until you file bankruptcy if you can afford to. Emergency rooms don't require money up front and they can't turn you away for inability to pay. But they can limit how much they help you. They only have to stabilize your condition enough to discharge you to home.

They do without health care until when they HAVE to go to the Dr. then they go to the Emergency Room. Or else they just go to the Dr. then file bankruptcy.
