I've posted a few time but the status keeps updating.

I just got a new battery and alternater 1 month ago. I get power when I put in the key but just get a clicking sound. There was no indication of problems recently. There is a rare occasion about once a month or less when it won't start.

I was able to get my car jumped and it ran fine but seemed a bit noisy at first. Someone told me they think the serpentine belt seems loose and may be the issue.

Any suggestions? Car is a 97 Olds LSS

The clicking sound is an indication the starter motor is not getting full battery voltage so either the battery is low in voltage or you have bad terminal connections at the battery or starter motor

Sounds to me like something is sticking on and running the battery down. If you can catch it when it is doing it you can disconnect the battery and hook a test light up between the battery and the cable if the light stays on more than a few seconds you have a problem. Try pulling 1 fuse at a time until the light goes out and then check every thing on that circuit. Keep in mind if you open the door the interior lights will come on for a minute or more.
Since it appears intermittent I would check the brake light switch, cooling fan relay, power antenna, and door lock switches. These can all stick on intermittently. The interior light is on a timer and should shut it self off even if you forget.

the first thing to check is the battery connections. then check your wires going into the battery connectors. and your wires at the sol. and ground. make sure all are tight. this will be good to do twice a year, with or without a problem.

you would possibly want to favor to change the battery cables. or that's a foul starter relay, you could cost effectively fix this with information from including a relay to the exciter cord on the starter.or a ignition swap my be failing, you could examine the decrease back of the swap to be certain even if that's coming free.you do not say if its an motor vehicle transmission, might want to easily favor the protection swap adjusting. desire this helps. solid success
