I had bad experiences in the past.
So, little by little, i started retreating in my little dream world, in a complete fantasy world of my own. People who look at me always tell me i have a "spaced-out" look on my face; others say i look sad, some even say i have a suicidal look, or i seem like i want to kill someone. When i say i dream a lot, i mean i never realise what's going on around me. I see human beings as shadows, as aliens that i cannot understand. I don't understand people, why they react the way they do! And this pushes me even deeper in my hole. And, when i do something, i never think about the consequences. I sometimes wear my mind out, thinking that people actually have feelings and minds of their own. I'm too far from reality to actually be able to care about them. Has anybody ever felt the same? Feeling constantly separated from the outside world?

I think everyone does this occasionally, but it sounds as if your situation is more serious than that.

We've all had bad things happen, some of us worse than others, and retreat such as you describe can be a coping mechanism--it happens to a lot of people who are in horrible situations, and they get through it by going someplace else in their mind, or sometimes by kind of stepping out of their bodies and being a detached observer of what's gong on (yeah, I know it's weird--it's tough to explain if you've never experienced it, and there is a term for it called "depersonalization").

It appears that you've used your coping mechanism as a substitute for reality, and that's not very good, because we have to live in the real world.

Contact your local mental health center (most of them charge on a sliding scale, according to what you can afford) and get some professional help. Please do this for yourself so you can come back to the rest of us!

Living In A Dream World

The fact that you are aware that you are "out of touch" is a good sign and shows that you may be more insightful about your problem than you believe.

However, for the problem you describe, I urge you to consult a mental health professional for a complete evaluation (for example, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, licensed counselor or clinical social worker....Psychiatrists are the only group of professionals in the mental health field who can write prescriptions). Some communities offer services like free mental health screenings, if you don't have insurance. If you are a student, your school might also offer those services for a small fee, if at all.

Obviously, something is telling you that things are not right, and you should follow up on that intuition. I strongly encourage you to get an evaluation as soon as possible, before the problem gets worse. I hope this helps.

It sounds like you are about to enter the Twilight Zone! Seriously, though, If you are happy this way and not responsible for taking care of anyone else, let it be.

If not get some help. You may have a chemical imbalance in your brain. There are lots of mental health resources available on sliding scale.

That's probably our only chance to get out of illusion into reality. Get out of 'reality' and maybe people can see reality.

girl, my life is nothing but bad experiences...but instead of letting my depression push me away from the world, i see reality more clearly. my point is that living in a dream world is no way to look to the future. instead of joining the people who want to make the world a more horrible place to live, find people who want to make the world a better place. use your imagination!!!

You know I would go see a psychiatrist about this, you may have a brain issue that may make you feel disconnected. It's important that you address this in a serious way.

i use to feel this way..do u hav anyone to talk to about problems u might hav..im 16, an growing up, i realized that my parents didnt really talk to me or treat me as they treated my other brothers... they were together for most of their life, and after they had me they separated..im younger than my brothers so i didnnt really talk to them growin up..i had nobody to talk to except myself..maybe this could be a reason why we feel the way we do sometimes. also, the fact that im not "black" or "white" or "asian" or "indian" but i certainly hav traits from all...maybe i hav an identity issue or sumthin..cause i dont kno how to act alot of the time..i dont act the SAME all the time, an its kinda like i dont hav a personality.. ive heard ppl say i live in my own world already, but that cud be because i dont share my thoughts with anyone really, i dont really hav anyone i trust enough...
