That way you can mix up your classes..Do what you HAVE to do and you also get to do what you WANT to do..Keeps school from being too boring and mundane..s

They round out your education rather than just focus on your major. It just happens that most electives seem trivial. Maybe a way to get different types of students to interact.

It gives students a "break" from core classes--especially when they're "standardized tested" to death.

Also, it's a chance for students to explore possible college majors or post-secondary trades.

Well they kinda give you an idea as to what u enjoy doing , so u can later make a decision as to what u want to do in future.

1. They give students who aren't college prep something to do.

2. They give teachers who don't want to teach college prep curriculum something to do.

3. They can teach life skills that one wouldn't get in college prep curriculum, e.g. shop classes, or stock market.

they are supposed to broaden your horizons, I don't like them, they are a waste of time and energy.
