Colts at Ravens (-4) By no means am I a Ravens fan, but their team this year is far better than their team in 2001 when they won the Super Bowl. Baltimore's defense is as strong as ever, having given up only 201 points this year, by far the best in the NFL, and on offense, Steve McNair is a huge upgrade over Trent Dilfer. Baltimore went 7-1 at home this year and has won 9 out of their last 10 games overall, while the Colts have lost 4 straight road games and Peyton Manning, in what's becoming an all-too-familiar playoff theme, made several bad mistakes against a mediocre Kansas City defense last week. No way does he get away with those mistakes this week against a good team on the road.

Prediction: Ravens 23, Colts 13

Patriots at Chargers (-4.5) What an intriguing matchup this is! I think these are 2 of the top 3 teams in the NFL right now. Last week's Patriots victory over the Jets was vintage Tom Brady. He doesn't make any one individual play that amazes you, he doesn't juke past 8 defenders like Michael Vick, he doesn't throw the perfect 50 yard bomb nearly as often as Peyton Manning, the types of plays you see on Sportscenter. He's just extremely consistent from play to play, doesn't make mistakes, and then when you look at the scoreboard at the end of the game, like last Sunday, his team is in front 37-16 and he has gone a very solid 22-34 for 212 yards, 2 TD, and 0 INT.

The Chargers have the edge in talent with stars on both sides of the ball: Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Shawn Merriman, and Jamal Williams. However the Patriots have the advantage in coaching and experience. While Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have won 3 Super Bowls together, Marty Schottenheimer has never won a Super Bowl and Phillip Rivers is a first year starter who is unproven in the postseason. Can he lead a team downfield in the final 2 minutes of a playoff game with the pressure on like Brady?

I've been debating my pick in this game the last several days and I've come to the conclusion that whenever in doubt, go with the team that had the advantage of a bye the previous week. The Chargers did go a perfect 8-0 at home and while, New England's defense is pretty good, it's not to the extent where you can't move the ball on them, so I expect LT to have a big game. I do expect Marty to find some way to elude the Super Bowl again; I just don't think it will be this week. I'll cast a shaky vote for the Chargers, but certainly a Patriots win would not surprise me.

Prediction: San Diego 24, New England 20

Seahawks at Bears (-9) When these two teams met in September, the Bears crushed the Seahawks 38-6. That type of victory won't happen again for two reasons: the Seahawks were without Shaun Alexander in the last meeting and with the inconsistency Grossman has shown recently, the Bears will likely go with a much more conservative, running game plan. The Bears' biggest vulnerability is indeed that when Grossman starts off bad, he has shown little ability to keep things from snowballing. Still though, the Bears have a definite huge edge in defense and special teams, and because of Grossman's inconsistency, people tend to forget only the Chargers scored more points than the Bears. Seattle's defense is depleted by injuries and Matt Hasselbeck hasn't looked sharp since coming back from his injury. They are nowhere near the team that they were at this time a year ago. Last year after a first round bye, the Bears lost at home to the Panthers 29-21. I think that experience was helpful and I don't see the same thing happening to them again this year.

Prediction: Bears 24 Seahawks 10

Eagles at Saints (-5) Drew Brees deserves to be the MVP runner up (to Tomlinson), Sean Payton deserves to be the Coach of the Year, but make no mistake: the inexperienced Saints are very vulnerable. Homefield advantage doesn't mean much in this matchup because the Saints only went 4-4 at home this year. The Saints run defense is the 3rd worst in the league while Brian Westbrook averaged 5.1 yards a carry this season and is coming off a 140 yard performance last week against the Giants. The Saints have no trouble putting up points themselves, so I think this is going to be one of those high scoring games where whoever gets the ball last wins. I'll give the edge to the Eagles because I think Westbrook will rush for close to 200 yards and the Eagles, with Jim Johnson's exotic pass rushes, are more likely to force turnovers than the Saints.

Prediction: Eagles 34, Saints 31

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Kevin

Bears - They are solid in every aspect of their game, so long as Rex doesn't gunsling too much. The Seahawks are struggling in their passing game, and though teams have shown you can run on the Bears, it's very hard to do when you are one deminsional.

Chargers - That offense is virtually unstoppable when they are clicking. Patriots do not have the personel to deal with all those weapons. Patriots cannot win a shootout.

Ravens - Defense wins against a Colts team that fails to produce outdoors in the playoffs. Peyton Manning throws TDs, but he'll get picked multiple times too.

Eagles - Big Mo is on their side, as they enter the Big Easy. Garcia has a hot hand, and that team has finally figured out how to play as a unit rather than a bunch of individuals. New Orleans keeps it close, but they can't outscore Westbrook and those young, fast WRs.

Bears..........They're a much stronger team than the Seahawks.....
Chargers.......but that's not death and taxes......If they make a couple of mistakes the Pat's will capitalize from that.....No mistakes then the Chargers have the better all around game.....
Ravens.......Manning will probably need the Heimlich Manuever a couple of times during the game.....Colts can't stop a running game and have a weak defense........Ravens have a good offensive game and an awesome defense to back it up.......
This is the tough one........I'm going to say the Eagles......They're on a natural high a la Jeff Garcia's excellent play of late......(I wonder where this kind of play his been hiding before this)......I think the Saints bubble may burst this week..........CAT

Ravens 21 - 17
The Ravens D will be able to get enough pressure on Manning and force a few errors. The game will be won by Jamal Lewis, who will just pound the ball on Indy's D and grind the clock out. In my personal view, these are the best two teams in the NFL and this should be the Superbowl matchup...it's too bad they have to play this early.

Saints 35 - 24
Originally I liked the Eagles, but the Saints never stop surprising me. With Joe Horn probably playing, which makes the Saints all-ready potent pass game even more deadly, Eagles secondary will really miss Lito Sheppard for this game. Saints D will hold-up just enough to win this game...to counter the Eagles blitz, look for Deuce to get his touches and short passes to Reggie for big gains.

Seattle 20 - 10
I have to go with one upset and can't pick all four home teams. In my opinion, the Bears are overated and kind of stumbled into the playoffs, beating weak teams by small margins. This game is really all on Grossman and his ability to pass down field and I say he chokes on Sunday. Seattle is an experienced team and would have had a better record if it wasn't for injuries to Hasselbeck and Alexander. Even though Seattle did not play all that great last game against the Cowboys, their D proved to me that they can stop the run effectively and not give up big plays. Alexander will play strong and Chicago will really miss big Tommie Harris on their D-Line.

Chargers 33 - 20
Patriots are hurting on D and will miss Seau and Harrison's leadership. LT will be his normal, outstanding self and River's will pick and choose his spots to throw, gaining big yardage on play action downs. The Pats did a good job against the Jets blitz last game, but the Chargers pass rush is more dangerous and it will force Brady to throw the ball away when Merriman gets right in his face. Patriots are a solid football team, but just not as complete as previous years. SD will show that their season was no fluke.

'HAWKS: 13-7
Why?: Rex Grossman will stink the place up. 'Hawks win it in a low scoring game. 'Nuff said

CHARGERS: 34-24
Why?: The Bolts have way too many weapons on both sides of the field. LT will carry the load for the Bolts. Look for Lights Out and company to pressure Brady a lot too. Bolts are undefeated at the Q. Schottenheimer will finally win a playoff game! GO BOLTS!

RAVENS: 24-13
Why?: Raven's D will dominate in this game. Manning's struggles in the playoffs continue and McNair will be sharp. Look for the Colts run D to suck again.

SAINTS: 42-39
Why?: Saints offense will be too good for the Eagles to handle. Drew Brees will lead the way to a playoff win. I think Westbrook should have a good game though too.

ravens
colts coming back to baltimore. I live near baltimore and i saw a bunch of people with t-shirts that say things like manning sucks or manning is gonna choke again...

saints
even the 85 bears cant stom the saints at their 1st home playoff game in a really long time. et alone the eagles

ok first seahawks
second im a big pats fan but no front runner i have to say that will be a great game i think the chargers have the advantage but i hope the pats pull it out.
colts V ravens . i think colts
and last the saints. the eagles will in my opinion def lose. westbrook is their whole team and if the saints disable him to run about 5 first downs then they're gonna be in good shape.

Bears-Grossman cant possibly have a 0.0 rating two games in a row, and the bears D has proven to be able to change a game after all "defense wins championships"

Chargers-To much LT thats all there is too it. and even after he got caught and had to stop steriods merriman proved to be pretty good, overall chargers d works well

Ravens- I really wanna give it to Peyton and Harrison, I want them to win one cause they deserve it. Plus, the Ravens defense is also great, and Steve McNairs got the experience.

Saints-Eagles are playing hott, but they are down a DB(lito shepard i think) and Brees, McAllister, Colston, Henderson, and Bush are just to much, even tho im fairly sure I heard Joe Horn is out, plus their FB and TE are good too, I just cant remember the Names sry Oh and not to mention the 'Dome will be just rocking

BEARS - This is a no-brainer. History says Sexy Rexy has a good week. Wild Card: Hester

CHARGERS - More talent, better Defense, the wild card is Phillip Rivers and i think he will be good enough

RAVENS - Thier "D" will embarrass the Colts. Peyton has a rough time in the post season

SAINTS - Drew Brees + the 2 best rookies in the league, end of story

2007-01-12 17:36:14 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Bears - Chicago better D and Seattle D is very weaken by injuries. Grossman must limit the turnovers though.

Patriots - Playoff experienced and savy QB (Brady) over the young and green QB (Rivers). NE D will limit Tomlinson effectiveness and force Rivers to throw...mistake for SD. And once again Marty will get outcoached and his team outplayed in a playoff game.

Ravens - Baltimore D will limit Manning and Baltimore power run game will chew up the clock and score.

Saints - They already beat them once and that was when Philly had a much healthier D and McNabb.
