I have tried using plenty of bleach, bleach-based detergents, baking soda, etc. Still, my shirts don't get as white as those I take to the cleaners. Any solutions?

First, use detergent specifically for whites, and follow the instructions on the package--usually meaning you wash on 'hot' instead of warm. Also, look for 'blueing' which is a laundry additive for whites that makes them appear brighter.

I own and run a dry cleaners. what you have to remember is that laundrys and drycleaners have access to detergents that you cant buy from your normal supermarket. Yes there are some good detergents/cleaning solutions out there but unless you have access to the profesional detergents then you generally aint gonna get them as clean as professional cleaners will im afraid.

Are you washing them in hot or cold water. I have found that cold water is best for washing whites with 1 cup of bleach and normal detergent. Using hot water dissipates the chlorine so it is not as effective
