It can. The nipple is a sensitive area and the child has a jaw bone under those gums.

It is possible to experience pain when breast feeding, but it is generally only at first when you are getting used to the nursing and it is more of a discomfort than an actual pain. Sometimes you will develop a cracked nipple or a breast infection and those will be very painful. However, normal breastfeeding doesn't generally hurt. If the baby isn't latched on properly that can be painful as well.

Yes, it does! They don't tell you that part! The baby has suction power you'd never imagine. But you do get used to it. It's just at first, you're not used to it, and your boobs are sore from you milk coming in, and you're like man, this sucks! But at the same time, it's wonderful. I don't want to scare you, it's a beautiful thing, just be prepared. Also, you have to be careful not to use lotions on your breasts, but there is a kind you can use, and you need to, because otherwise you nipples might get dry and crack, and trust me, that hurts. Because then each time the baby feeds, it will re-open. If that starts to happen just ask your doctor the name of the cream you can use that won't hurt the baby. It only hurts for a few days, then your body adjusts. You'll do fine.

The only time I had a problem during breast feeding was a little bit of nipple soreness. Also sometimes your breast can become very engorged with milk and that is painful.... If the latter is the case...it is best to acquire or rent an electric breast pump, it works quickly and you feel so much better........ also you can use the breast milk in a bottle giving your nipples a break.

The first couple of weeks, expecially with the first baby, can be downright uncomfortable. But if you make it through the first two weeks you will notice it gets much more natural and then it just becomes second nature and isn't uncomfortable at all...that's more when you get the beauty of nursing stage. But, especially for fair skinned women, they can have cracking/bleeding and it takes times for nipples to toughen up to being sucked on several times a day.

So truthfully - yes it can hurt...but it really is more of an uncomfort and a feeling of "no - not again when you are on the 5th feed of the day etc...but that will NOT last...it really does get easy!!!

It will hurt in the beginning.Like someone expecially if it's your first child that you are breastfeeding.Your nipples will be sore and may crack. There are some oitments that you can put on your nipples that will help.I personally heard somewhere just to squeeze some of your milk out and put it on your nipples. That's what I did.I think the worst part is when your milk comes in.You are going to be engorged.Your body is just trying to regulate your milk.Make sure to have breastpads.

It may be uncomfy for like 2 weeks but in the end it is well worth it.Good Luck :]

At first it does, very badly, but then it stops after a few days. In the hospital I felt like I wanted to quit because it hurt so bad, by the time I got home from the hospital the pain had stopped. If you're breastfeeding you need to get some cream to put on your nipples to keep them from cracking. I had a scab on one of my nipples because the suction of the baby was so strong.

Yes but it is supposed to stop after a while. If you are feeding the baby in a wrong position it will hurt until the position is corrected.
Also, your nipples can crack and bleed, and you can get an infected milk duct, which hurts.

Yes, it will hurt for the first few weeks. Your nipples are a very sensitive area so they will be dry, sore, and will scab. But don't worry, none of this is permanent. Your nipples will get tougher over time. If you can make it through the first 2 weeks, you'll be fine. You just have to tough it out. I always told myself when I was breastfeeding that it was best for my baby so I had to stick to it.

It did for me! The nurses at the hospital told me that my son was latched on properly, but he wasn't. The day after he was born my nipples were black from being bruised, and the day after that for about 2 weeks my nipples were extremely cracked and everytime he would nurse he would get a mouthful of blood (poor thing). I finally went to the lactation specialist in my city and she helped me correct his latch and although it still took about 2 more weeks of the same thing, it was finally corrected. So I will say make sure your baby is latched on properly and it wont be near as painful!
And then the next feat is when your baby starts to get teeth and they think it's funny when they bite your nipple, but thats a whole other story!!

At the begining, yes. Not only are your nipples getting used to it, your baby is learning to latch on. The urge to nurse is instinct, proper latch on IS NOT! You must train your baby to take a big huge mouthful of breast, not just the nub of the nipple, and have his or her lower lip everted (splayed out over your breast, not tucked into the mouth.)

Nursing can be hard at the begining. It gets better quickly, though and its absolutely worth it though.
