3x + 4y = 11
To write it as a function of x, you need to solve for y.
Subtract 3x from each side
4y = -3x + 11
Divide everything by 4
y = (-3/4)x + 11/4
Sometimes we write f(x) instead of y. (This way you can see that this is now a function of x).
f(x) = (-3/4)x + 11/4
