I was at the ticket purchasing line to see Blood diamond the other day and there was a guy buying a ticket for himself.I made it a point of duty to see where he sat when the film started and noticed he was still alone. As it turned out he watched the entire film alone and left. I don't know why I felt sad. was not alone by the way, but I didn't share my thought with my friend.
Is going to see a film alone a weird thing?
is it sad in your opinion?

You felt sad because your way of seeing the theatre is a place to go for a social event such as night out with the girls to watch a chick flick, or maybe a date, Also the feeling of sadness towards that guy shows me that you have a big heart and that you actually care about other peoples feelings... But dont under estimate the situation. He probably wanted to watch a movie and no one was available that night to join him. that fact is that it could be a million reasons why he was alone that night.
A girl might have ditched him
He wanted to watch a movie by himself (no interuption)
Hard day and he wanted to treat himself
what ever it was its ok. it was his choice to go and he went. If anything you should look up to that person for having such steady self-esteem and not caring what others thought.if I wanted to go by myself i would be battling my thoughts of self-conciousness and thinking "would do people think of me, what are they saying about me, Oh no. every one thinks i have no friends" That is a problem a lot of us need to over come and its not easy.

Don't feel bad!! I go to movies by myself all the time! I prefer to see movies alone because I like to watch the movie without being interrupted.
I probably see a movie at least 2-3 times a month, and I cannot honestly remember the last time I was actually with someone else.

The mere fact that the guy was alone is not sad. Don't assume that he was a loser just because he was not with anyone. Did you think that maybe he wanted to be alone? Despite what society would have you believe, everyone does not necessarily have to be with somebody in order to feel validated as a person. Relationships or "being with someone" do not necessarily equal happiness or fulfillment. Maybe the guy was one of those people who believe that no date at all is better than a bad date...

No, I don't see it as sad or weird. Many people prefer to see movies alone [no interference].
I go both alone and sometimes with family or friends. If I want to see a particular movie, going alone will not stand in my way of seeing it.
Learned years ago to decide to enjoy life and do whatever I wanted to do - travel, dine out, theatre, movies, etc. without feeling I couldn't go because I didn't have a date or friend to go with me.
It's called being adjusted and not feeling your life must be tethered to someone else to give it validation.

I like to go alone because when i go with friends they always ask questions about the movie and we're watching it at the same time!!!!! It's so damn annoying So i don't think it's pathetic to go to the movies alone. But i see why you felt sad though

My mom goes alone all the time and at first I thought it was sad but she doesn't seem to mind. Some people may prefer to be alone just to get some alone time. For all you know that man may have had 6 kids and a nagging wife that he was getting away from.

It's not sad. The last time I went to the cinema I went with my sister-in-law. I love her to bits, but she never shut her mouth the entire time during the film. She was always asking questions about what we were watching.
I would prefer to go alone.

I've gone to the movies alone lots of times, and I don't feel self concious about it. It doesn't mean the person has no friends to go with, maybe he just felt like going to the movies.

I have a girlfriend but I actually plan on going to the movies alone tomorrow. I wont have to listen to her complain about the movie I wanted to see.
