Make sure to run over something that the vacuum can't suck up, burn up the belt and then after he's fixed it have him show you how to vacuum without sucking up the wrong stuff. And do the whole house for you, since you just don't get it.
That might work for you. Its hasn't yet, for me. I've already went through 2 vacuums.

Well, to be fair, you need to point out shared responsibilities and he should get the point. Otherwise, if possible get a treat for the both of you, the Roomba robot vacuum! I don't think he would mind doing the vacuuming then :)

Duct Tape his hand to the vacuum and walk naked in front of him in the pattern you want cleaned.
