You have an age old problem. First you have to rid the house of fleas and the animals at the same time.
Fleas can live in carpet and fabrics for YEARS unless properly bombed or fumigated.
The animals are a little easier. Ask your vet for the best possible, least harmful (to your pets skin) flea shampoo. Bathe your dog and cat, then ask your vet if they would recommend a product called Revolution for your pets. There are others on the market, but this one has a dog formula and a cat formula. It's a topical, once a month application which takes care of fleas, ticks and heartworm all at once. Revolution is dispensed only through a vet. I have been using it on my 2 dogs for some time.
Good luck!

The trick is getting rid of all the fleas at the same time. You should have the dog and cat dipped at the vet's, and while they are gone (board them or take them to someone's house), set off a flea bomb in the house. You can consult an exterminator about the flea bomb or ask about doing it yourself if you can find out where to buy one. ( You leave the house, closing all the doors and windows and you set this thing off and it creates a fog in the house that kills all the fleas).

First of all I would take my pets out of the house and bomb it to kill the fleas and their eggs. I would wash all rugs that can be put into the wash and not put them back down until the fleas are gone.

You can buy some rug powder from Pets Smart or whatever that is made of natural herbs such as peppermint to kill any fleas that have survived the bombing.

I use home made peppermint doggie and kitty shampoo monthly on my pets. Fleas and ticks do not like peppermint, but it won't hurt your cats or dogs. I buy the shampoo bar online at www.grandmaandmesoaps.com. It really works for preventive measures.

Good luck.

call your vet and ask what the reccomend for fleas on a dog and a cat. DO NOT USE THE SAME PRODUCT ON BOTH. flea killing products for a dog will kill a cat. and many of your store brands will not help any and cats still have a tendancy to get sick from these products even if labeled for cats. flea collars are a waste of money all together. any flea med with a pyretherin in it should never be used on a cat. it can affect their nervous system. i use frontline plus on my dogs and revollution on my cats. plus you will need to treat your yard and house with pet safe products. good luck.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

I would recommend that you go to your local pest control service and get something to treat them or actually have them treat them. It is very hard to get rid of fleas once they are in the house. The stuff they sell everywhere else don't seem to work either. I tried everything and the only thing that I found to work was the stuff from the professionals
