Besides from the obvious of getting good grades,(without them forget it) and working on the everyday fundamentals, one good way is to send a CD with about 2-5 minutes of game footage. Too much & they will be bored. I really believe that a registered letter with your stats & GPA with a short note as to why you would like to play for them and how you feel you would be an asset to their program. You can include a picture of yourself but not really necessary.Bragging does not work. People can claim anything, but a copy of your grades and stats are good bullet points. People that tell you that they can help you get noticed if you pay them $$ can be misleading and take advantage of your desire to make $$. Some say they will get your game films to the coaches but there are so many people & not enough time for the coaches to see every person. Some high school coaches try but really do not know how to help the players on a big scale. They may call a college on a “great player” but what about the ones with better grades that are good players but in the shadows? Even then, how many colleges will the coach contact? If you are a senior the time is very short. The colleges have been looking since last year. You have to be your own PR firm and send letters & more letters! Another suggestion is not to limit yourself to just Div 1 ball. Do your homework & see what colleges need a player like you that don’t have 6 guards deep with new recruits on the way. Some Junior Colleges are great & give scholarships & that is one great way to improve on your skills & get noticed by colleges. The good news, when a college recruits a JuCo transfer, it is because they to need them to start not sit the bench. A lot of people sit the bench the first two years so why not play at a JuCo & then get picked up as a junior. You will be 2 yrs older/ smarter/stronger & will not be overwhelmed as most Frosh do their first year at a big college. The bottom line: look for any college that needs your talent and don’t let your ego or friends decide what division you have to go play at. The education is what you ultimately want and there are small & big schools around the country that do not have the recruiting budget to go find the talent so they rely on local talent, and if you can help them “find” you, you may find a great small school that is no where near you but has a great program. One last thing, my highschool coach told me to find another sport & I end up in the NBA after playing in Europe & CBA,so never listen to coaches unless they offer encouragement! HS class of "82"
Sorry this went longer than I expected.
Good luck!

Play Club/Travel Ball especially during the Spring and Summer. They attend what they call viewing tournaments where all the scouts are. You can also make tapes of yourself and send them to the colleges you are interested in.

Do the dirty work. Go all out. Dive for loose balls. Take charges. Pass. Play tough defense. Scouts love that...
