I want to make something that will make a nice bang. I can't be bothered buying any specialised materials and I don't want to blow my hands off when i'm making the things. a roman candle would be could.

I don't think giving out info like that is a great idea. But I too have been interested in pyrotechnics in the past. There are ways to take "legal" fireworks and make them into what your looking for. Thats the biggest hint I can give you. Use that and Google and your sure to find plenty of things that suit your needs. Good luck, and for Gods sake, please be careful.

The chemistry behind fireworks is the chemistry behind explosives so I doubt you'd be able to buy the raw materials to make anything decent without serious questions being asked.

There are two types of firework maker.

There's the one who holds the tube in one hand and pushes in the gunpowder with the other. You'll recognise them - they finish up with only one hand.

Then there's the one who holds the tube between his legs and pushes in the explosive with two hands. You won't recognise them. Nor do their mothers afterwards.
