The government finally admitted today that American troops and aircraft helped Ethiopia invade Somalia. How many more troops will America send to Somalia - and how long will we be bogged down there? Is this going to be the new Iraq?

A note to the Armchair Admirals - you need to work on your reading comprehension skills.

I said "American troops and aircraft" participated in the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia - I did NOT mention what unit those troops and planes were from, because it's not relevant.

What's relevant is that American forces were heavily involved in the invasion and the subsequent counterinsurgency war that has broken out.

Do you know the difference between a special ops unit and an organized military operation. I don't believe you do, by the content of your naive question. The US has special ops units all over the world, helping those who share our military and political objectives. The US has no intention of escalating it's involvement in these operations, but it's always willing to support allies with intell or in this case, a little retribution from 1974. Remember?

By the reports today it looks as though that little skirmish is about done. The US gun ship and the troops from Ethiopia took care of business

the only American troops in Somalia are from the Special Operations Command and that's mostly aircraft and crew. sorry, we're not "bogged down" in Somalia...

nah, it won't be. cause the Ethiopians kicked some *** and they aren't bound up like we are by a bunch of idiots.

ya see, there's this thing in Somalia called the government, and that government invited the Ethiopians in. they also told the U.S. that there were suspects wanted for a U.S. embassy bombing there and if we wanted them, come and get them. that's why the military went in.

so go ahead and tell me how this is illegal.

No, look at the situation before asking illogical questions, we have a few observers there, and we bombed a few Al Qaeda strongpoints. Thats it, nothing to get worried about, Jeez.

I don't think the United States will directly engage in the occupation of Somalia. George Bush, at the moment, can't afford any more controversy.

I think it should have a better ending than the last time we were there.

I remember vividly and lividly Clinton's craven retreat after his ill-considered "Black Hawk Down" incursion, where he ignored his commander's request for armor. Followed by bin Laden gloating about how America was weak and cowardly, which drove his next big attack - bombing the WTC.

Bush won't let that happen again.
