Dodgers by far...Barry Zito isn't worth all that money, he may win 15 games this year, but thats not worth all the money he is getting..

The Dodgers got the better deal. Jason Schmidt is a proven winner in the National League. He can be counted on to pitch deep into the game and will always keep the team in the game because he won't give up lots of runs. Barry Zito will have to adjust to the National League umpires strike zone. He doesn't always have good command of his curve ball but when he's on he can be tremendous. He will help the Giants but Jason will be more valuable to the Dodgers. It's too bad that the Giants lost him to a division rival. I can't wait to Jason face off with Barry Bonds!

Dodgers. Schmidt is a proven arm. Zito is SO overrated. He's good but not great. Hasn't thrown a complete game since 2003. I'd be concerned with that stat since the Giants pen Blows! Benitez absolutely sucks. They have nothing to bridge the gap as far as middle relief goes. Dodgers have Schmidt, Lowe, Penny. Solid.

Oh, By the way... the better move that the Dodgers made was not signing Eric Gagne. Closers are a dime a dozen, Gagne is no exception.

I'd say the Dodgers with Jason Schmidt got the best deal. Zito is great and all but the fact that he hasn't been injured yet is kind of risky. Something's going to happen soon I'm sure to Zito. Schmidt got a good deal by being at Dodger Stadium.

i agree with the guy who said barry zito. as a team, the dodgers by far got the best deal. jason schmidt is a great pitcher, and flies in under the radar, maybe thats just because everything in san fransisco not named barry bonds flies in under the radar, and no general manager in their right mind gives any starting pitcher seven years, because no matter how good they are now, you cant depend on an arm for the next seven years, espescially not for that kind of money. that being said, zito has great stuff, including a wicked curve, and all gms love left handed pitching, but schmidt is the better pitcher right now, and the dodgers got the better deal by a longshot

Well, I would have to say that Barry Zito is the better pitcher of the two pitchers, but the Dodgers got the better deal. Barry Zito is a great pitcher, but do you really think that he deserves the BIGGEST contract ever offered to an MLB pitcher ($126 million)? No, he doesn't because there are WAY better pitchers than him in the MLB, such as Chris Carpenter and Johan Santana, that don't receive half of that amount.

Probably the Giants because Zito came out of the American League where players were used to him, where in the National League he will be dominant for several years before people catch on to him. Unlike Jason Schmidt who's been around the National League for a long time.

Let me put it to you this way Jason Schmidt will not have to put up with the distraction of Barry Bonds which in the course of a season will benefit the Dodgers. Think about it.

Dodgers. Zito will be good, but clearly Jason S. is an ace. Zito will be a third starter at best. Check back in three seasons to really tell though.

Jason S is a proven winner and even when he does not win games, he keeps his team in it. Zito has had a 4.00 ERA or higher the past 3 years and has proven nothing except one good season.
So the Dodgers are better off.
