we got a 40" bravia hd lcd tv, its all singing and dancing and the got all the bells and whistles, its so totally worth it but to get the full benefit you would need sky hd, now, as there is only a few sky hd channels at the mo we are waiting a while, i would recommend doing the same, and wait a while for upgrading your tv too as they will come down in price and you could grab a right bargain! as for lcd or plasma depends on your enviroment, and lcd has crystals in the screen so if you have kids they might touch the screen which when hot will mark it! but and lcd screen is better in my opinion! hope this helps!!!

You need the HD thingy for the 360, sky HD box for the telly. I'd go for a LCD (which I have) compared to a plasma (which my mate has). There is a very short time delay on the plasma compared to mine. Also, whatever you get, look for the highest contrast number. A lot of 'cheaper' ones have 1000:1 or 2000:1, this is ok for HD but really bad when watching 'old fashioned' telly. mine is around 5000:1 and isn't too bad. Unfortunately as is so often the case, you pay for what you get.
For normal sky there is no point in getting HD. If you do splash on an HD box it is really very impressive, though there aren't too many HD channels at the moment.

Does it make much difference over a standard TV. Yes, yes it does.
Does it justify the additional expense? only you can answer that question.
What's better LCD or plasma? That could be answered on several fronts but since you seem to be interested in a financial consideration I would suggest LCD. You will receive a much better value for your money. They tend to be more reliable, last longer and have sufficiently better picture quality and depth that the average user would choose an LCD over a plasma when given full information on both.
High quality Plasma can offer depth and realism LCD cannot duplicate but plasma still comes with a set of issues. While it presents a superior picture when new and functioning properly, it cost significantly more in terms of overall investment and length of life. Plasma is still really a viable option only for those who are not concerned about the financial implications.

I think plasma is best but uses alot of electricity plus am not sure but could be a problem if you want to play the xbox 360 on it (burining images into the screen or so ive heard).
HDTV LCD with the xbox and a VGA cable gives great graphics but I think you can get this also with a PC monitor if you have the VGA cable.

SKY would be a bit distorted as its not broadcast in HD but the 360 would look great as its supposed to be shown in HD. Ive got a 360 + SKY HD the 360 looks great but SKY HD is awful. Its to exoensive as theres only about 20 HD cahnnels and most of the time they are doing previews. Like BBC HD. They do preview until 7PM every night. If your getting a HDTV dont get SKY HD until theres more HD channels or until the price goes down.

Without a doubt
I went for Sony 32" v-series as I've always had and rated Sony and with the Sky HD box the pictures are stunning.
Set up the new telly and my old telly side by side and the difference is incredible the picture was of beefy(Ian botham) in a studio and you could have thought that they were two different people and you could see so much more detail, even the droplets of sweat on his forehead looked really clear(not necessarily an advantage i know)
