I have never tried to have a baby before. I have gotten a pap smear 3 months ago and everything checked out fine. I am a healthy person. Now that my husband and I would like to start trying for a baby, do I need to see a doctor before I start or not until after I conceive?

It is always best to see your health care provider to make sure that you are in good health with no hidden concerns. As was stated before, the doctor may discuss pregnacy, ovulation and possibly start you on some vitamins. He will also go over dietary and medication do's and dont's. Good luck!

You want to make sure that your MMR vaccine is up to date. If it isn't, go get vaccinated and then you have to wait 3 months to start trying. You will also want ot begin taking pre-natal vitamins NOW for the Folic Acid...don't wait until you get a positive test.

The average healthy couple takes up to 1 full year to get pregnant with well timed intercourse. If you are over 35, only wait 6 months before seeing a doctor.

You DO NOT need to be genetically screened. The test is called Karyotyping and is typically only done in infertility patients. It's pretty expensive so don't worry about it.

This may be TMI, but when your vaginal discharge becomes thin and watery or stretchy (like eggwhites) this means you're entering your fertile phase and to have sex. After you ovulate and your mucous dries up and becomes thicker again, your period should be due anywhere from 11-15 days. If it takes less than 10 days to start, see your doctor.

Since you already saw your doctor 3 months ago and everything was fine, then there's no need to go again. Let nature take it's course. The only thing the doctor might suggest is to start taking your prenatal vitamins now. You can just get these at any drug store. If you don't get pregnant after trying for several months is when you need to see the doctor (because that may indicate something isn't normal). Good luck to you and enjoy your future pregnancy!

You don't need to see a doctor to start trying, unless you think something is wrong with either of you. Good Luck! It's such a big decision to decide to have children! I would try for 6 months, if nothing happens then you should go and talk to your OBGYN. Just make sure you are on prenatal vitamins they sell them over the counter. Cut out the caffeine, eat healthy, and exercise.

the only time to see a doctor is when it's taking a long time but if you have gotten a pap smear and they say everything is fine then i wouldn't worry just yet

I have heard of women getting a "preconception physical." But when I went to my doctor at the time for one of these they acted like I was stupid for asking. Told me it wasn't necessary as long as you've been getting your annual pap/pelvic exam done. I think if you're healthy and have no concerns then it is fine to try for the baby right away.

I think it would be in your best interest to see your doctor. He can give you tips on how to stay healty incase you become pregnant and advise you of the best days to conceive are. I guess if you dont feel like you have any questions and you know everything you are getting into, then I wouldn't bother:) Good luck!!

First, you should have the test done by your doctor that shows if you and your husband's DNA's go well together... if they don't, your baby might have a lot of problems developing properly (might have his DNA instead of yours, which could cause a lot of pregnancy problems). In that case, your doctor will be able to give you a shot or something to help this problem before you try to conceive. Good luck!!!

I called my doctor to tell him I was going off birth control pills.
He suggested some vitamins to take, and asked me if I understood my most fertile times, etc.

But, I didn't have to tell him.
