I think you should be commended on this revelation from this day forth when the moon is high I will call it moony. Thank you for this contribution.

Because moony describes people--like Prof Lupin. Actually, the moon has long been suspected of making people crazy, hence the words lunacy and lunatic.

Because the moon doesn't contribute anything noticeable to the overall temperature of the evening. The lack of clouds makes it cooler, but that's not the moon's doing.

So apparently, the moon hasn't earned the phrase.
